About the Role – Station Cashier

Virgin Forest Energy Limited is currently seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Station Cashier to join its team in Onitsha, Anambra State. This full-time position is ideal for a finance or accounting professional with experience in cash handling, transaction processing, and customer service. The successful candidate will be responsible for receiving customer payments, processing sales transactions, maintaining accurate financial records, reconciling daily sales, safeguarding company funds, and providing excellent customer service while ensuring compliance with the company’s financial policies and operational procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Cash Management

• Receive payments for all petroleum products sold at the station.
• Issue receipts for all customer transactions accurately and promptly.
• Ensure accurate cash handling with zero cash shortages.
• Maintain an adequate cash float throughout each shift.
• Secure cash and other valuables in accordance with company procedures and safety guidelines.
• Prepare daily cash summaries and reconciliation reports for management review.
• Deposit daily sales proceeds as directed by management in a timely manner.

Sales and Transaction Processing

• Process payments using cash, POS, bank transfers, and other approved payment methods.
• Verify transaction accuracy before completing each sale.
• Record all transactions promptly and accurately in the Point-of-Sale (POS) system.
• Report any transaction discrepancies or irregularities immediately to the supervisor.

Daily Reconciliation

• Reconcile cash collections with POS sales and pump meter readings at the end of each shift.
• Balance daily cash, electronic payments, and credit sales to ensure accuracy.
• Investigate and report any cash shortages or overages to management.
• Prepare end-of-shift financial reports for submission to the finance department.

Documentation and Record Keeping

• Maintain accurate records of daily sales, deposits, receipts, and cash movements.
• File all supporting financial documents in an organized manner for audit purposes.
• Ensure all documentation is complete, accurate, and easily retrievable when needed.

Customer Service

• Attend to customers professionally and courteously at all times.
• Respond promptly to customer inquiries regarding payments, receipts, and product pricing.
• Resolve minor customer complaints or escalate them appropriately to the station manager.

Compliance

• Adhere strictly to company financial policies and internal control procedures.
• Ensure strict compliance with all cash-handling and security procedures.
• Support internal and external audit exercises by providing accurate records and documentation.
• Maintain strict confidentiality of all financial information and customer data.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Minimum of 1 to 3 years of experience in a cashier, finance, or retail operations role.
• Experience in a petroleum retail station is an added advantage.
• Bachelor’s degree or HND in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills with attention to detail.
• Proficiency in the use of POS systems and basic accounting software.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• High level of integrity and trustworthiness in handling cash and financial transactions.
